Cancer - an illness or a cursed word?
With cancer goes the thought of death... how much longer can someone endure such pain?
Nothing someone says can change the heartbreaking moment of a doctor saying the “C” word.
Although we expected cancer, it was just a thought and now it is reality.
How does someone handle a loved one with cancer? What can you say to a newly diagnosed loved one?
Here is some tips that I found very useful, during this time:
- Listen. ...
- Give advice only when you are asked. ...
- Educate yourself about cancer. ...
- Support your loved one's treatment decisions. ...
- Remember the caregiver. ...
- Be specific about the help you can offer. ...
- Stay connected. ...
- Keep things normal.
- Be receptive to your loved one’s needs when treatment is over.
